Warm months are the hardest time for real fur. Heat, damp and moths can all damage a coat that is left in a wardrobe. A little care over summer keeps your fur in great shape for years.
Keep it cool and dark
Store your coat somewhere cool, dark and dry. Heat dries out the leather under the fur, and sunlight can fade the colour.
Let it breathe
Hang the coat on a wide padded hanger with space around it. Never seal fur in a plastic bag, as trapped moisture leads to mould and dryness. A cloth garment bag is fine.
Protect from moths
Moths love natural fibres. Keep the wardrobe clean and use cedar blocks rather than strong chemical sprays, which can harm the fur.
Consider cold storage
For valuable pieces, professional cold fur storage keeps the coat at a steady low temperature and humidity over summer. Many fur specialists offer this service.
