Fur Care Guide

How to care for your real fur coat

Looked after well, a real fur coat can last for many years. Here is how to keep yours soft, full and beautiful.

Everyday care

  • Hang your coat on a wide, padded hanger so the shoulders keep their shape.
  • Give it room in the wardrobe. Fur needs air and should not be squashed between other clothes.
  • Keep it away from direct heat, radiators and strong sunlight, which can dry out the fur and leather.
  • Avoid plastic covers, as they trap moisture. Use a cloth garment bag if you need to cover it.

If it gets wet

Shake off rain or snow and let the coat dry naturally at room temperature, away from heat. Do not use a hairdryer or radiator.

Cleaning

Only have your fur cleaned by a specialist fur cleaner. Normal dry cleaning is too harsh for real fur. Once a year is usually enough.

Summer storage

In warm months, store your fur somewhere cool, dark and dry. Many owners use professional cold fur storage over summer to protect it from heat and moths.
